- Description
- Nettie Fairbairn, the daughter of James Fairbairn and Mary McLeod Fairbairn, was descended from early settlers to this area and had a life-long interest in local history.
She kept useful notebooks with memories of pioneer life and many scrapbooks and boxes of clippings of topics that interested her. Her scrapbook of photos of local men who served in World War II is an excellent resource at the St. Marys Museum.
She never married but lived a full life, very involved in organizations such as the Womenès institute and the Patriotic Society and with her extended family.
In her home on Water Street South, she tutored a number of Italian immigrants in English as a Second Language in the 1940s and 50s and was fondly remembered by them for this service.
Nettie was active in collecting old articles during World War I.
She is pictured here looking off to the side wearing a beaded blouse and a necklace. - Notes
