- Description
- This is what was then the "new" Royal Bank building when these photos were taken in 1915:
(from Wikipedia - search "Royal Bank Building, Toronto")
"Further east [from 20 King street West - another Royal Bank building] is the original Royal Bank building. Built in 1914 and designed by architect firm Ross and Macdonald, it was the tallest building in Toronto and the British commonwealth after its completion. It rises 20 stories above the northeast corner of Yonge and King streets. Today its offices house many firms and the main floor is occupied by a mattress store and a fast food restaurant. It served as the bank's Toronto offices until the Royal Bank Plaza was completed in 1977."
This photo comes from a series of 20 photographs dated 1915. Three show the St. Marys Cement Plant while 17 show buildings and bridges (mostly in Toronto) constructed using Rogers Cement. They were in a sales package, and came to us from Ron Laidlaw. - Notes
