- Description
- Concrete bridge over the Humber River in what is now Metropolitan Toront.
This photo comes from in a collection of 20 photographs dated 1915. Three show the St. Marys Cement Plant and 17 show buildings and bridges (mostly in Toronto) constructed using Rogers Cement (Rogers was an early partner in the company even before it located in St. Marys in 1912 and became St. Marys Cement.
The collection came from Ron Laidlaw whose father, William Laidlaw, was an employee of this company first in Durham and then in St. Marys. The photographs appear to present a portfolio showing the versatility of concrete as a building material for sales and promotion purposes. This concrete bridge was built a few years before 1915, the date of the photograph.
Please see the submitted comment for interesting additional information about this bridge and the early history of settlement along the Humber River. - Notes
