- Description
- A sawmill worker would stand at the top of a jackladder and with his picaroon, pull off the larger logs and send them over to the saws. When they had reached their quota for the season, the sawmill was shut down until the next year. Apparently the paper mill was compensated for these logs. Later years, the horses were replaced by tractors. On one occasion, a sawmill worker was killed standing on a rail-less jackladder.
