- Photo of a group of people standing outside the Pleasant Hour Theatre that was once located in what is now 166 Queen Street East.
The people are identified as (left to right): __________________, ________________, Jack Alberts (the Projectionist), William and Jean Provan, Delbert and Margaret Hoover - Notes
- Condition: Okay. Some rips and tears in image and matte but photo is in pretty good shape otherwise with some yellowing at edges.
- Inscriptions
- The owner, W. Provan, was born in Glasgow. He fell out of a carriage as a child and thus never grew very tall. He came to Canada about 1900, and worked in Winnipeg. He was a vaudeville entertainer, who dressed in a kilt and performed Scottish songs. He was billed as the Canadian Harry Lauder. He met his wife, Jean, in Winnipeg and they were married in London. About 1911 they came to St. Marys and entered the moving picture business with Margaret and Delbert Hoover (Margaret was Jean's sister). William eventually bought out Delbert's share of the theatre.
By 1920, William and Jean Provan had moved to Hamilton, and then later to Michigan. - Date de l'original
