Description
Photo of "Ercildoune" named after the town in Scotland where Dr. Thomas Sparks was born. It is located at 236 Jones Street East, on the corner of Jones and King Streets.

Ercildoune was originally built as a wedding gift to George Carter's daughter Charlotte when she married Henry Lincoln Rice in 1880. The home is built in the Second Empire style, a very rare style of home in St. Marys or any other small town. The Sparks' family lived in this home from about 1905 into the 1950s.

This view was likely taken before the Sparks' arrival to the home - around 1900. It shows a picked fence surrounding the property.
