- Under this Accession number there is a collection of newspapers from the United States (US) from the years 1812 to 1886, some of which contain articles related to the War of 1812. The following is a brief description of the articles of interest.
This issue has articles that discuss an "Inquiry into the causes of the present grievance of America", which discusses the need to increase manufacturing in the US. There is a letter from a young Englishman who advises against war between Britain and the US. In addition, the paper features a print of the act declaring war with Britain and a proclamation concerning the American support in the war by President James Madison. There are also articles discussing relations with 'indians', including a letter from a young man that joined General Johnson's expedition against the 'indians' in Tennessee. Other articles of interest include a celebration of American independence on July 4th at Fort Manary and a "Patriotic Song by Ethan Stone. Tune-Yankee Doodle" that discusses the fall of Canada. The chorus states: "Saratoga to them all, Bunker's Hill confound them, soon the Canadas shall fall, when freedom's sons surround them." There is also a small public notice to return, if found, several horses owned by the US Army, Commanded by General Hull, that had recently fled. - Éditeur
