Description

A round/pear shaped dish made with a handle and a hook for hanging. Animal or fish fat was burned from a cotton wick within for a source of light. Betty lamps would have been an important source of light at this time and would have been used extensively. Light was essential during life in early Upper Canada. During the winter months, Betty lamps provided warmth and light to be able to read, sew or accomplish the duties of the day
