Description

The sword, which is made of brass and steel, has a lion's head pommel and a curved blade. Along with its scabbard, it is believed to have belonged to the Musician in Captain Raunchey's Volunteers (Coloured Corps) in the War of 1812-1814. It is unknown when this provenance was attached to this object.

The scabbard, which is made of brass, has two rings attached to it. It is unknown when the provenance was attached to this object. It is somewhat doubtful that a muscian in the Coloured Corps would possess such a sword, however the sword can be attributed to the War of 1812 due to its style and manufacture.
Further research in 2010 suggests that it is a Musician band sword from the 1820s. It is a British sword with a single fuller on both sides. It has a flat back, cast hilt and curved quillions.
