Description

This is an oval cross belt plate from the 1st Battalion of the Canadian Embodied Militia, a Canadian Provincial Corps. The brass cross belt measures 7 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. Inscriptions include “1st BATT.N EMBODIED MILITIA” along the rim and a Scotch thistle with leaves in the center. There are two raised brass plugs on the back and the hook is broken. There are also traces of white clay from the belt that remain.

Several units of the Embodied Militia served at the Battle of Lundy’s Lane on July 25, 1814. This item is on display at the Battleground Hotel Museum.
