Description

This is an Upper Canadian British militia officer’s coatee of the sedentary militia. It conforms to the regulations of 21 June, 1814, which specifies that all officers on duty shall appear in a scarlet jacket with dark blue facings, yellow buttons, gold lace around the collar and cuffs only, and plain gold epaulets. According to the rank there are 18 plain gold gilt buttons on the coat front, four on each sleeve (one is a reproduction from Parks Canada), four gilded buttons on either side of the pocket flaps, one button on the left tail (right one is missing) and two buttons at the beginning of the tails. There is also gold lace trimmed triangular at the base of the tails, white turn at the back of the tails, and a blue wool cuff trim.

There is also a red military sash included with the uniform coatee. This item can currently be found at the Willoughby Museum.
