- Description
- A model of a propeller ship that was handcrafted c. 1890 by P.J. Carr. The earliest steamships used paddlewheels for propulsion, but propellers gradually replaced paddlewheels as they were more efficient. Throughout the 19th century, the design of propellers gradually improved until they eventually became the dominant propulsion system still used today.
