Her first book, Too Close to the Falls, published in 1999, is a childhood memoir about growing up in the 1950s in a small town. It was on The New York Times, The Boston Globe's and The Globe and Mail's best seller's lists ­ the latter for 172 weeks. Too Close to the Falls was also nominated for the Trillium Award, won the Different Drummer's Award, and was nominated in England for various prizes. The sequel, After the Falls: Coming of Age in the 60s, came out in 2010 to similar acclaim. She has also written a novel called Seduction (2005, Random House) which is a thriller about Darwin and Freud. The novel has been translated into many languages. The novel also reflects Cathy's 25 years as a psychologist in private practice. Cathy also writes journalism pieces for newspapers and magazines, and reviews books on the CBC. She has three grown sons and resides in Toronto with her husband.
