The open-source Evergreen ILS was adapted by library technical staff to serve the varied needs of college and public libraries, while the consortium administtrative partnership ensured financial efficiency and streamlined procedures. Learn how moving beyond traditional parameters resulted in an effective, innovative and responsive ILS. Convenor: Christa Lochead, George Brown College Telling Island Stories is a digital preservation and economic development pilot project that leverages the Islandora opensource software framework. Librarians and developers, working with community cultural and heritage organizations, are building an iPad app that will integrate with the Islandora framework. The project will enable users to explore, contribute to, and disseminate digital repository content as well discover the institutions that house and curate Prince Edward Island's material culture. Can librarians really be faculty? Do our activities, professional cultures, and missions differ enough from faculty to always make for an uncomfortable fit? Does unionization impinge upon professionalism? How can librarians embrace the functions closely associated with us and assert our expertise not as educators or faculty but as professional librarians? This debate will be informed by the qualitative and quantitative results from a survey of librarians from McMaster, Queen's and Guelph, all unionized, and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Association's survey of academic librarians. Convenor: Arvind Mehta, University of Toronto (Student) OCUL's recently launched Geospatial Portal is a data storage and discovery tool which is improving access to geospatial data for Ontario researchers and students. Discover the portal's functionality, which allows users to search, explore, and download geospatial data. It will also discuss future directions for the project, including plans to integrate collaborative tools to support the use of the portal in the classroom.
