During the last few decades, immigration has significantly increased the racial and ethnic population of Ontario. One of the challenges facing us in the nineties is creating directions for our educational, cultural and political institutions in the face of such rapid change. The people of Ontario expect not only to access and participate in all activities and institutions but to receive all services to which they are entitled. Boards That Make a Difference Speaker: John Carver, author and President, Carver Governance Design Inc. John Carver's ground-breaking model for governance calls for nothing less than a "revolution" in board attitudes and activities. Over the past years, Carver has observed that even the most talented and caring boards fail in their duty to lead. This failure comes not from the people involved, but from the process. Traditional board structure weighs down volunteers with trivial, short-term considerations and has allowed board/staff roles to become vague and unclear. Carver's focus is on true leadership. Through his presentation, you will discover how your board can govern with clarity, values and vision. Carver's comprehensive approach to board/ staff relations, policy development, accountability, evaluation and monitoring is certain to change the way you look at governance, forever.
