- PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Welcome to the 80th Annual Conference of the Ontario Library Association. This year's theme, Creative Management in the 80's, reflects the Association's concern that libraries of all kinds be able to react positively to the challenges posed by rapidly changing technology and a depressed economy, while at the same time responding to the ever increasing demands for service at all levels. The sessions and workshops have been planned to generate practical suggestions which can be implemented in a variety of situations. There are many cross-divisional workshops addressing management priorities which will be of interest to you whatever your Division or Guild affiliation. As well, it is hoped that you will find sessions directed to your specific interests and needs. I hope you will be able to attend our gala celebration at the Saturday night banquet which marks the 100th anniversary of the Free Libraries Act in Ontario and our 80th Annual Conference. At this celebration we are honouring the past presidents of OLA and former winners of the Ontario Library Trustees' Association Award of Merit. The Honourable Bruce McCaffrey, Minister of Citizenship and Culture, will be our principal speaker. My special thanks go to Liz Cummings, the Conference Chairman, and the members of her committees for all their dedication and hard work throughout this past year. Welcome again. I hope you will enjoy the Conference and take from it some ideas and suggestions which will assist you in your work, that of providing the best possible library service to the citizens of Ontario.
