Notes and reminder WHERE TO FIND MEETINGS Floor plans for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the Crowne Plaza Hotel will be found inside the back cover of this program. Meeting room names to some extent identify their location: Numbered rooms (202A, 205D, etc} are located in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) Named rooms (Humber, Ontario, etc.) are located in the Crowne Plaza Hotel (CP). Theatre is in the MTCC, Ballroom A & B are in the Crowne Plaza The OLITA Cyberport is a constructed area within Exhibit Hall C. The escalator to get to the Exhibit Hall is opposite from Room 206E. ADMISSION TO MEETINGS Your badge is your admittance to any meeting being held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, except for sessions where a ticket is required. You are not confined to the conference in which you are registered . Please wear your badge at all times. Admittance to the Exposition Hall will be by Badge only. For fire and safety reasons, admission will be denied to meetings when the facility is full. Rooms have been assigned based on the patterns discerned from sessions chosen by delegates in the registration process. Not everyone provides session selection information and the pattern may change , causing some sessions to fill up unexpectedly. Delegates are requested to make an alternative choice from the approximately twenty choices being offered in any given time. Certain sessions have already been cancelled based on pre-registration statistics. We apologize for the inconvenience. EXPOSITION '96 The hours for the largest library trade show ever held in Canada are: Thurs., Feb., 8 II :30 am - 7:00 pm Fri., Feb. 9 I0:00 am - 2:00 pm The Exposition is a significant contributor to the financial well-being of the Ontario Library Association, as well as a significant contrihutor to your education experience at the conference. Please spend your non-workshop time in the exhibit. There are two food concessions and over 300 booths to explore while enhancing your conference experience. BADGES, TICKETS AND RECEIPTS Your receipt is part of your badge. Do not lose or destroy your badge if you require a receipt. Your receipt lists all events for which you have paid. You should have a ticket for each item listed. If you are missing any item, please enquire at the official Registration desk in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre's main lobby. DIGNITARIES The Honourable john Snobelen, Minister of Education and Training is meeting prior to the Saturday luncheon with leaders from OCULA and OSLA. He is getting his first major impression of our field at the luncheon on Saturday where he is speaking. The Honourable Marilyn Mushinski, Minister of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation is addressing the OPLA/OLTA Awards Luncheon Saturday. A strong show of support for these visits is politically necessary. This is the first time a Minister of Education has appeared in decades, and the timing could not be more critical. OLA is gambling that members and delegates will want to obtain tickets and have ordered extras to be bought on-site. These tickets are available for $24 each and are at the Registration desk in the MTCC. General Seating for both speeches will be available at 12:25 for those who have elected not to MEETING CHANGES Although every attempt is made to avoid changes in meeting rooms and sessions, some alterations may be necessary in such a large program . AWARDS The james Bain Medallion OPLA's award to the Public Library Trustee of the Year will be presented on Saturday at the OPLA/OLTA Awards Luncheon in Ballroom B. Elizabeth Ciugard, Chair, Geraldton Public Library Board is the 1996 recipient. j.W. Robertson Medallion OLTA's Award for Librarian of the Year will be presented on Saturday at the OPLA/OLTA Awards Luncheon in Ballroom B. Gerda Molson, CEO, Niagara- O n-The-Lake Public Library is the win ner. THE OLAStore The OLAStore,located in the main lobby of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This year the store is being operated by Shirley Lewis Information Services on behalf of the Ontario Library Association. The store includes works by our speakers and visiting authors, Silver Birch Award nominated titles and a cross section of current and classic library literature from across the continent and from speakers and authors at the conference. OLA's own products will be featu red. A complete autographing schedule is on page II. 5
