Peter Sis through the Red Box: author, illustrator, filmmaker, idealist ne of today's many highlights is session # 813: In Conversation with Peter Sis. The internationally acclaimed illustrator, filmmaker and author was born and raised in Czechoslovakia. He studied painting and filmmaking at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague and at the Royal College of Art in London. Peter's scrutinized life under communist rule was eventful to say the least, but he managed to work his craft and avoid serious trouble with the authorities. His mother was an artist and his father a filrrunaker, who was able to travel and bring back treasure from the west. Some of that treasure was music in the form of records. Peter 's access to western music earned him a job as a DJ, and with some freedom of travel at the time, he was able to go to London where he interviewed The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. This freedom ended in 1968 with the Russian Spring. Even so, a year later Peter acted as tour guide for the Beach Boy's concert stay in Czechoslovakia. Continued on Page 4.
