Art Benjamin An IBM alumnu s, Benjamin has received special recognition awards and has served on committees and advisory groups for government and educational bodies. His lectures throughout North America and abroad are focused on the impact of developments such as voice and handwriting technologies and the 'Information highway' and how they can best be exploited . Librarianship at the Faculty of Education , University of Victoria, Don Hamilton was the creator of the Pearson Institute, a continuing education program that has been much emulated . A former teacher-librarian in Clinton and Kenora, he won the Margaret Scott Award for Excellence from the Canadian School Library Association in 1978 . OLTA's J.W . Robertson Medallion winner as Libra rian of the Year in 1993 . R~semary Kavanagh Now Director of the CNIB Library for the Blind, Rose-mary Kavanagh spearheaded OLA' s Ten Days to 2000 Project with the ALA' s Library and Information Technology Association . She developed a technological strategic plan for Ontario public libraries while at the Libraries and Community Information Branch and was a Regional director. Stan Skrzeszewski Principal of ASM Consult-ants and OLA President 1990, Stan Skrzeszewski is CEO for the OLA of The Coalition for Public Information . He is Chair of the Multicultural Section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions and Instructor at the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario. He has publi shed and is a quoted authority on information policies and strategies and has led OLA's work over the past four years. Ken Haycock Currently Director of the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia, Ken Haycock is a library leader, much honoured and esteemed by colleagues in all types of libraries. He has been a teacherlibrarian in Ottawa, a library consultant at the Wellington Board of Education and in Vancouver, a principal in an elementary school, and Director of Program Services at the Vancouver School Board. He has been a public library tru stee, a school board member and a union local president. He is active in more than 30 professional associations, holding positions in half of them. He was the youngest person ever to be elected President of the Canadian Library Association. He is publisher and editor of Emergency Librarian, has published over 80 articles and columns in 30 journals around the world and is author of 15 books John Black Chief Librarian at the University of Guelph, John Black has been involved with development and application of computer-based messaging systems since the early 70s. An early advocate of CD-ROM technology in library applications, he saw Guelph's OPAC in 1987 become the first University library catalogue in the world on CD-ROM. He is the first Canadian Chief Librarian to become President of the Association of Research Libraries and is on CANARIE ' s Board of Directors . His articles, conference presentations and workshops have made him a major international figure. Gabriele Lundeen Gabriele Lundeen was the first Director of the Southern Ontario Library Service and is now CEO of Canada's largest public library system, Toronto Public Library. Laraine Tapak Laraine Tapak is Director of the Challis Resource Centre at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. (Invited) Susan Merry Susan Merry is Director, Business Information and Records Management, for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. She won the Chairman 's Award for Outstanding Contribution to CIBC in 1993 and the SLA Toronto Chapter Member of the Year Award in 1994. Janet Yale Ms Yale is a lawyer and VicePresident, Regulatory Matters of Unite\ Communications Inc . She is responsible for Unite\' s participation in proceedings before the CRTC and other regulatory bodies as well as the development of Unitel' s positions with respect to regulatory and governmental policy initiatives. Prior to joining Unite\, Ms Yale held the posidon of Director General of the Cable, Pay and Specialty Services Branch at the CRTC. She was previously General Counsel with the Consumer's Association of Canada . Carol Pitt Jane Horrocks Founder and first President of the Ontario Library and Information Technology Association, Jane Horrocks is now incoming President of the Ontario Library Association. She is CEO of Richmond Hill Public Library and Carol Pitt is a Superintendent at the Hamilton-Wentworth Roman Catholic Separate School Board . Before taking this position, she was the board's library consultant and before that, a teacherlibrarian of local prominence . She is OCSOA' s representative on the writing team creating the successor to Partners in Action. Joyce Garnett Joyce Garnett is Chief Librarian at Laurentian University in Sudbury.
