- Welcome, Bienvenue, Aaniin to Super Conference 2018!
Every year Super Conference, the largest library conference in Canada hosted by the largest library association in Canada, brings together library and information professionals to experience exciting and stimulating programs in supports of professional development, networking and social events. Definitely the place to be for library and information professionals of all backgrounds. And with such a rich program, you might wish you could clone yourself to be in more than one place at a time!
Our theme "Fearless by Design" encapsulates how, as library and information professionals, we are entrusted with holding the facts and evidence upon which a just society is based, while ensuring access to all, at a time when it appears that the world is moving into a post-truth era where "fake news" seems to be threatening that just society, and the institutions that underpin it. And so:
-We take risks
-We endeavour to explore the unknown
-We shed light on learning and technology, and we fight for the right to information, literacy, and education for all
This year's program has been inspired by our new OLA mission, empowering our members in the library and information services sector to build informed, participatory, and inclusive communities through: Education; Advocacy; Partnerships.
The super in Super Conference is thanks to our superhero team of planners, volunteers, staff, session presenters, and conveners, and especially to our conference co-chairs, wonder women Emily Burns and Jacqueline Whyte Appleby.
We would like to acknowledge that the land of which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation.
On behalf of the entire Super Conference team, I hope that each and everyone of you will join us in being "Fearless by Design" at Super Conference 2018!
