2/24/2020 OLA Monthly Newsletter https://ola.informz.ca/informzdataservice/onlineversion/pub/bWFpbGluZ0luc3RhbmNlSWQ9MzYzMDk0 4/6 Counting Opinions has launched a Canadian Library Data (CLD) portal (http://canada.countingopinions.com) to facilitate the establishment of a pan-Canadian library data set that: provides all Canadian public libraries with an opportunity to contribute to and leverage a national comparative data set; offers comparable public library data to advocate for improved services to benefit Canadians; facilitates research on Canadian public libraries; and promotes Canadian public libraries within Canada and abroad. The CLD portal provides access to national comparative data sets about public libraries across Canada. The CLD - Typical Week Survey will capture baseline data and information about use of performance measures by Canadian public libraries. To effectively promote the survey and to better inform libraries about this opportunity to participate, Counting Opinions has offered to provide an email communication template that includes instructions for accessing the Canadian Library Data portal (http://canada.countingopinons.com), as well as usernames and passwords. Libraries are encouraged to complete the survey before Dec. 17. The University of Toronto Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA) Alumni Conference Grant The U of T Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA) and the Ontario Library Association (OLA) have joined together once again to provide Faculty of Information alumna/us with a grant to attend the OLA Super Conference. The 2014 Super Conference will take place at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto from January 29 to February 1, 2014. The grant recipient will receive a full OLA Super Conference 2014 registration*. As well, the recipient will be invited to attend the OLA Super Conference iSchool Alumni Reception free of charge. The grant does not cover other costs such as: pre-conference events, ticketed events, travel, accommodation, or food. Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the award: Be graduates of the iSchool or its predecessors (Faculty of Information Studies, FLIS, FLS, SLIS, and Museum Studies) at University of Toronto Not have received a similar grant in the past three years Submit a timely and complete letter of application indicating need and potential benefit Commit to submitting an article (approx. length of 150-300 words) for a future edition of Informed, the FIAA alumni newsletter A photograph of the grant recipient at the conference is highly encouraged, so that it can accompany a news story on the iSchool website, as well as a story in the Informed magazine.
