This conference will give technology leaders the opportunity to work with educators; provide them with the knowledge, teaching methods and hands- on experiences to help them bring technology into their everyday lessons in the classroom. Teaching that is relevant to our global, innovative, diverse, and complex society requires that we embrace technology as part of our education in the same way that is part of our lives. Register Now Thursday, May 8, 2014 8:30 AM - Friday, May 9, 2014 7:00 PM at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, Niagara Falls, Ontario Help the Héritage Project Prioritize Collections The Héritage Project is digitizing over 800 of Canada's popular archival collections from 60 million microfilm images. Once a microfilm collection has been digitized, metadata needs to be created to make that collection more "searchable". This is an immense task as much of the collection is handwritten. While printed text can be "read" by computer software - through a process called Optical Character Recognition (OCR) - and made searchable, handwritten text cannot. This is the first of a series of surveys for the project. Through this survey, your assistance would be helpful in prioritizing which collections should be made more searchable. There are 70 collections identified in the survey under 5 categories: Genealogy, Aboriginal History, Military History, Government Publications and Landmark Papers. The Priority Committee is looking for as much feedback as possible, so it is alright for multiple people at one institution to fill out the survey. The collections may viewed online at the Héritage web site. You can also view detailed descriptions of the collections, including links to digital copies. If you have any questions or comments please contact Marlene Armstrong, Héritage Project Manager, marlene.armstrong@canadiana.ca. Take a few minutes and complete the Héritage Project survey.
