HAPPENING IN THE LIBRARY WORLD Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Confederation On May 15, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced $150 million for the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure program to support the renovation, expansion, and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure that provides community and cultural benefits for the public. Libraries are eligible! Have an idea for an initiative that can be provincially coordinated and locally implemented? OLA is contemplating applying to the Canada 150 Fund and would like to hear from you! Contact Annesha Hutchinson, OLA Marketing and Communication Coordinator, with your ideas. 2015 Awards and Bernard Vavrek Scholarship Available from ABOS The Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS) offers annual awards to recognize outstanding service, support for conference attendance, and the education of a student currently enrolled in a Library Science degree program. The ABOS John Philip Award ($300) is given to recognize outstanding contributions and prominent leadership by an individual in Bookmobile and Outreach Services. The Carol Combs Hole Travel Grant (three (3) $500 travel grants) includes free 2015 ABOS Conference registration and a stipend for travel expenses and/or accommodations for the conference. This year's conference will be held at the Pheasant Run Resort from October 14-16. The Bernard Vavrek Scholarship ($1,000) is awarded annually to a student who has been accepted into or is currently enrolled in a Library and/or Information Science graduate degree program at an ALA accredited school, and who is interested in this particular field within the library profession.
