The Marrakesh Treaty and Libraries Canada is one of the first G7 countries to implement the Marrakesh Treaty, breaking down barriers for Canadians with disabilities. The Treaty sets international standards on certain exceptions to copyright so that print materials can be adapted into formats--such as Braille and audiobooks--that visually impaired and print-disabled individuals can use. The Treaty also makes it possible to distribute accessible-format copies between countries, thus reducing barriers to access to books and information in alternative formats. Kudos to the hard work of the CNIB Library, the World Blind Union, and to CLA represented by Victoria Owen, who was chair of the CLA Copyright Advisory Committee during the treaty discussions.
