These works will encourage public engagement in the arts and will promote outreach locally, nationally and internationally. For more information on the grant, please visit Canada Council's website. The first deadline is July 4. Ontario Public Library Awards Call for Submissions The call is out for projects that demonstrate the excellence and innovation that are hallmarks of library service in Ontario. If your library has a successful innovative program or excellent service, be sure to enter the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport's 2016 Public Library Service Awards. The deadline for submitting projects for the awards is July 29. Your library could win: 1. The Minister's Award for Innovation recognizes a successful new approach that demonstrates a positive impact in a community and is of continued value for public libraries. 2. The Angus Mowat Award of Excellence recognizes best practices and a commitment to excellence in the delivery of public library service; these services need not be new and may be on going. All submissions will be reviewed by an independent committee of public library representatives. Only projects which have been completed, or running for at least a year, will be considered by the committee. Download the submission form in English and in French. The shortlist candidates will be announced during Ontario Public Library Week in October 2016 and winners will be announced during the Ontario Library Association Super Conference awards gala in 2017. HAPPENING IN THE LIBRARY WORLD Registration Now Open for the New Librarians Symposium (NLS) - FREE Event New librarians, archivists, records managers, developers, and all others working in diverse fields who have completed their MLIS/MI/MIS degree are encouraged to register for this exciting (and free!) event (defined as having less than 3 post-degree years of experience). NLS won't be a "how to" event and won't be focused around securing a job. http://canadacouncil.ca/council/grants/new-chapter http://www.mtc.gov.on.ca/en/awards_funding/oplsa.shtml http://ola.informz.ca/OLA/data/images/Awards/PLSA%20Call%20for%20Submission%202016.pdf http://ola.informz.ca/OLA/data/images/Awards/Appel%20de%20candidatures%202016.pdf
