No question here about the comfort. I have driven two against the new Mazda RXâ€"7, the Corvette LT1, and the Lotus Elanâ€"â€" and the Nissan was a clear winner. I recently had the chance to drive the 300ZX in 2+2 form back Automotive â€" Wednesday, September 1, 1993 A2 From $22,490 + Frt., Del. At all times I had to have my senses in tune. Similarly, the new Porsche 928 GTS I drove during my two weeks with the 300s was disappointing. The Corvette LT1 makes all the right noises, and in convertible form, is highly desirable. But over the long haul, the short suspension travel and abrupt shock bottoming make this a car which can be wearing after, say, 700â€"800 kilometres in the rain. Both 300ZXs are powered by Nissan‘s ubiquitous 3.0â€"litre, V6, both with 24 valves. In the 2+2, it turns out 222 horespower. The Turbo, which actually uses two intercooled turbochargers, gives 300 hp on premium fuel. The 2+2 I drove came with a fiveâ€"speed manual box (fourâ€"speed automatic available for $1,000). The car was priced at $46,390, not counting the optional $1,400 leather package. Believe it or not, the back seat was still ample enough for me to put in a safety seat for my son. With the Turbo, that‘s not possible as it is strictly a twoâ€"seater. With a slightly longer wheelbase, the 2+2 is pleasurable on the controls. Both cars have the primary gauges mounted in a halfâ€" moon pod with rotary knobs on each side for lights, climate control and wiper/washer controls. All else is located in a central console, which is part of a visual wave which flows down from the windshield to the centre of the car . The 2+2 is a car which gives you time to enjoy motoring. Nothing is sudden (unless you want it to be) and is driverâ€"friendly the exception being a large blind spot. Put your right foot down and the power comes flowing in, particularly after the fourâ€"valve heads start to breathe above 3500 KERR Announcement rpm.
