THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, Sept. 24, 1993 â€" 12 Have you signed an 7 > organ donor card? THE KipnEy FOUNDATION OF CaANADA DR. KANTA BUDHWA wishes to announce her association THE DOCTOR‘S OFFICE 338â€"3730 FAMILY PRACTICE BY APPOINTMENT Indian languages spoken by Doctor 280 North Service Road West Oakville, Ontario Conveniently located at the northâ€"west corner of Dorval Drive QEW (in Oakville Town Centre I) GM‘s job to raise profile of orchestra As the newlyâ€"installed General Manager of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra, Kim Hall has the opportuâ€" nity to take her theoretical findings and put them into practise. Hall‘s thesis was on funding the arts in Canada, how to go about fundâ€" raising, developing an audience and marketing your product. The information she garnered on paper gives her the ammunition she needs to meet the challenges that lay ahead for the community orchestra, as government funding of the arts decreases and family entertainment dollars don‘t stretch very far anymore. "Right now we‘re (the OSO) riding on a high because of the Waterfront Festival but we‘re planning to make a humunguous impact on Oakville beginning now," says Hall. "We want people to put their entertainment dolâ€" lars towards Oakville, stay in town and see what‘s available in Oakville." Hall, along with OSO board memâ€" bers, are hoping to raise the profile of the community orchestra which, under OSO General Manager Kim Hali. (Photo by Peter McCusker) the musical direction of David Miller, probably enjoyed one of its finest seaâ€" sons ever last year. Not content to rest on its laurels, however, the OSO has planned two events designed to inspire community involvement and attract new subâ€" scribers. The first is a small concert at the Oakville Town Square on Oct. 2nd, and the second event is the OSQ gala, scheduled for Nov. 4th at ‘Othello‘s Banquet Hall and featuring tenor Mark Dubois, street magicians, a silent auction "and a wonderful meal." Hall is looking forward to her first job since graduating from the Dance Program at University of Waterloo with a Major in Arts Administration. An Oakville resident all her life and a dancer since the age of three, Hall‘s focus was always on the arts. "I‘ve always known I would seek a career in the arts," says Hall adding that she supplemented her dance courses with business ones at universiâ€" ty. As General Manager, she is responsible for the dayâ€"toâ€"day operaâ€" tion of the orchestra and she is the liaâ€" sion between the OSO and its board, the guest artists and the media. "You have to be open minded and understanding of peoples‘ needs," she says of her position, which is chalâ€" lenging one as the OSO gets ready to embark on another stimulating season CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH 1215 Lakeshore Rd.
