Oct. 25th: polls open from 9:00 a.m.â€"8:00 p.m. ~ Workers (CAW) Local 707 vice president David Tremblay, the agreement was ratified Sunday durâ€" ing a meeting that he characterized as very upbeat. The vote did not come as much of a surprise, he said, since the deal was consistent with colléctive agreements reached in Through donations and benefit TWO olunted nt th ROYAL BANK l umm WoOTk olon O@" @ \\' .>\' As for workers being laid off at the Niagara Glass Plant, Tremblay said all those displaced by the cloâ€" sure will be given preferential treatâ€" ment for hiring at the Oakville Car Plant. Isherwood was able $5,000 needed for the trip to Haiti. The company‘s move was announced last year and involves 700 workers moving to the Oakville Car Plant where a total of 1,100 workers will be needed to produce the new Windstar. The plant curâ€" rently produces 60 Tempos and Topaz per hour. Seventyâ€"five Windstars will be made per hour once production begins January 1994. The CAW was seeking to secure "future product" for the facility in order to return to two shifts. . As for the future of the Oakville Truck Plant â€" which Ford plans to drop from two shifts to one starting Nov. 1st â€" Tremblay said Ford has made no commitments but has agreed to sit down and discuss the matter. The deal effects Ford‘s 11,000 Canadian workers, 4,080 of whom work at the company‘s two plants in Oakville. Workers also applauded the fact that, even in tough economic times, they won wage increases of approxâ€" imately 10% â€" or $2 per hour â€" over three years when Cost of Living and the "annual improvement facâ€" tor" are included in the equation. This breaks down into 2% for the first year of the contract, 1.5% for the second and 1% for the third. Tremblay said workers who took the microphone were "very posiâ€" tive" about various aspects of the contract, including wage increases and improved pensions. In fact, Tremblay said negotiators improved pension money for every Ford worker now in retirement and even surviving spouses. + previous years M( (é rt by n |1 L in student TAalse¢ the September 20, 1993
