A ® Biomechanical foot orthoses, more commonly @ referred to as orthotics, are the most advanced and effective form of external treatment for painful conditions of the feet and legs. More specifically, orthotics are molded shoe inserts used to alleviate foot and leg pain by correctly supporting the foot to restore normal alignment and function. Foot pain is usually the end result of a faulty relationship between muscles and bones in your feet. Your feet and other parts of your body become overworked and damaged, trying to compensate for mistakes in the anatomical alignment of your foot‘s skeletal structure. Orthotics are designed to gently and consistently force your feet to function properly by maintaining the correct foot and leg alignment. Conditions commonly treated with orthotics include flat feet, pronation, bunions, heel spurs, knee, hip and back pain. Orthotics are designed by taking impressions of your feet to capture the individual contours of each foot. The devices are then made according to your specific prescription. With the ongoing advances in material technologies, orthotics can now be used in almost any type of footwear. A ® You were wise to have opened an account before ® the banks closed on December 31. Although the government has extended their Ontario Home Ownership Savings Plan, there will no longer be a refund on the land transfer tax for those who open an account after that date. You and your hubby qualify for that privilege; you should check the small print carefully on your contract (I believe it states you must make your purchase on or before 1997). Consequently, if you and your husband each put in $2,000 per year, you would have more than $16,000 saved for a down payment. On the other hand, if prices start to escalate, you will need to weigh the odds of waiting until 1997 and having a healthy down payment saved or purchasing now when prices have never been so good. For example, it is possible at this time for you to purchase a one bedroom condo with a balcony for under $80,000 in Oakville. ®@ My doctor has told me that I need orthotics. What are orthotics and how do they work? Last month we asked about the Ontario Home Ownership Savings Plan. You stated it would no longer be available after December 31. Consequently, we scrambled off and opened an account. Now, we find the government has extended the O.H.0.S.P. Are there any changes and was it worth the hustle for us to have done this? Telephone: §45â€"8720 345 Lakeshore Rd. E. Suite 512 Scott Harvie OAKVILLE ORTHOTICS A e Many people look at me and my patients ® quizzically when we mention having kids checked. The usual response is, "my son doesn‘t have a sore back," or, "my daughter‘s too young to go to a chiropractor." However, the truth of the matter is, the birth process is the most traumatic experience in life, and babies should be checked for spinal misalignments immediately afterwards. In addition to the trauma of birth, think of all the falls kids have as they‘re learning to walk or ride a bike or just playing around on a swing set. If all those incidents go unchecked, they can develop into serious problems later on in life. Symptoms, which are the last thing to appear but the first thing to go away, can take up to twenty years to materialize. Parents are conscientious to have their kids teeth, ears and eyes checked, shouldn‘t their spines get the same consideration? A e _ As with anything, you can manufacture it well or it can be e â€" manufactured cheaply. Using metal frames as the example, strength and corrosion resistance remain the standards of evaluation. Strength comes from the various metal alloys which are used and the precision with which the solders are completed. Each part of a frame performs different functions therefore has different demands placed on it. The temples must be flexible so they can withstand constant putting on and taking off while still maintaining their adjustment and comfort. The bridge area should have a degree of flexibility which will allow the distribution of stress over the whole frame instead of having it build up in one area. To accommodate all of these demands many higher quality frames use a different variation of "German Silver" for each part. "German Silver" is an alloy of nickel, zinc and copper to which tin is added for greater flexibility and the amount of copper is reduced for greater rigidity. Corrosion resistance and the maintenance of finish is dependent on the quality of the plating system employed. In the plating of frames many thin layers of plating are better than one heavy plating because the layers will not crack when the metal is bent while a thick plating will. Sometimes when you pay too little, you lose, because what you bought was incapable of doing what you bought it to do! e My neighbour‘s little girl had a fall off the ® swing set in our back yard last week and she took her to her Chiropractor. What for : What could he possibly do? Why can frames vary so much in cost? Abbe{IChnopracuc entage Way 825 9529 Lily Crawford 175 Lakeshore Rd. E. A @ are several techniques for getting great colour with @ â€" rubber stamps which give excitingly different results. Ink pads are a fast and effective way of getting colour They are available in a wide assortment of colours in washable/childsafe ink as well as pigment ink. Pigment ink is a richer thicker type of ink which is slow drying resulting in less colour fading. Water based markers offer a great colour alternative. By colouring directly on to the rubber of the stamp with water based markers and then stamping on your paper, you can achieve a unique multiâ€" coloured image. Wherever you put the colour on the stamp, that is where it will appear when you stamp it. This technique also allows you to isolate certain patterns on the stamp by colouring only part of the design. Embossing is a spectacular rubber stamping technique which allows you to achieve a â€"raised, shiny design. To emboss, simply stamp on your paper using a well inked stamp. Sprinkle the embossing powder over the wet ink and tap the excess off onto a spare piece of paper so you can return it to the bottle. Pass the image slowly back and forth over a heat source such as an element, toaster or iron until the powder melts creating a shiny raised image. Embossing powder is available in many metallic and nonâ€"metallic colours. Once your design has been stamped or embossed, you can use coloured pencils, markers, crayons or paints to further colour in your design. Seeing is believing!
