A mass user. And growing. For proof, check the clinics, hospitals, pharmacies. All of them bristling with hostility against Queen‘s Park‘s jackâ€"booted ideâ€" ological intrusions into the Hippocratic universe. Not friendly territory for Bobby Rae‘s ‘95 electioneering now underway. Home base for our closest confidants, outside family, the health care pros. In whom we trust most. An exaggeration? I wanted to know. "Look, they‘ve debased our profession," he grieved. ‘"If I were in my 20s again, set on this career, I‘d not do it in Ontario run by that crowd." My message to the incumbent preâ€" mier, therefore, is this: Young man, best get your spin doctors onto the health care circuit. See why already, a year early, your pensioners‘ box office appeals in shreds. Courtesy your outfit‘s weâ€"knowâ€"best arrogance about our lifeâ€" andâ€"death entitlements. Have you noticed in tough going good oldâ€" fashioned Norman Rockwell vintage front parlor health care humanity shines through to sustain us? The truth is we know who slaps our first breath into us at the opening, and folds down our eyelids at the closing. No Rae cohort I‘ve seen can match that! Red Cross continues blooc appeal with Friday‘s clinic Hoping to continue last week‘s success in its twoâ€"week blood drive to c lect 10,000 units, organizers are hoping this Friday‘s clinic at the River O; Recreation Centre will go over the top. The clinic, hosted by the River O Association of Residents and the Iroquois Ridge Residents Associatid answers the challenge from a clinic hosted last Dec. 30th by the Glen Abb Residents Association, which realized 125 units â€" the goal Friday‘s cli must beat. The clinic will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. Last week, the Toronto and Central Ontario Blood Centre collected 5,5 units, and hopes to do equally as well this week. The Centre supplies 61 host tals, including Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, and also sends blo about 20 units a week, to a Canadian military surgical unit stationed in the mer Yugoslavia. "Blood not required by the military is given to civilians," explained Sand Tesolin of the Centre‘s communications department. "None of it goes waste." The Red Cross has been sending on average, 20 units of blood eve two weeks since the Canadian military went to the former Yugoslavia December 1992, and this month, that request was doubled to about 20 un weekly as Canada has sent a second military surgical unit. To the end of 1 December, 575 units of blood were shipped to the former Yugoslavia, sa Tesolin. "It‘s a very small amount blood that we send over." Friday‘s River Oaks clinic will be followed by the regular monthly clinic Towne Chevâ€"Olds next Thursday, Jan. 27th, from 1:30 to 8 p.m.; and Mena Aerospace holds an employeeâ€"only clinic on Jan. 31st. All healthy individuals aged 17 to 70 are encouraged to give blood, eligibility is limited to every 70 days. All donors must bring identification. The major shortages occurs in ‘O‘ blood types. "We like to have, on given day, 500 units of Type ‘O,‘ concluded Tesolin.
