A look at the enterprising people behind Oakuille‘s growing businesses. an easy, environmentally friendly way to perk up your plants, indoors and out, why not try a new product that‘s completely natural, odorâ€" free, and doesn‘t make a mess? Environmentally conscious Oakville gardeners now have access to a line of totally organic lawn and garâ€" den care products manufactured by Organic Green, a familyâ€"run Alberta company. Family member Glen Sinnamon, set up a retail outlet on Wyecroft Road in April, and many residents have already sampled Organic Green‘s natural lawn fertilizer â€" so safe that children and pets can play right after its application. It‘s specially designed to break down mulch, which helps now that Oakville residents are prohibited from trashâ€" ing grass clippings. The company sells the only 100 per cent natural organic lawn and garden fertilizers with an alfalfa base. Because they don‘t contain toxic materials, manures, sewer sludge or heavy metals, there‘s no smell or mess. "People are impatient, and they want to see green right away, so they use chemicals. If you can wait a couple of weeks, the results will be better, last longer, and be easier to take care of," Sinnamon advises. Organic Green offers a number of lawn and garden care products, including a slow release formula which reduces the need for peat moss and makes nutrients available to the plant throughout its growing and fruit bearing period. There are also natural products for soil conditioning, giving a healthy start to spring flowers, for transplants, to start compost, and for killing fairy rings, a mushroom problem which plagues many farmers in western Canada. There are even small packages of fertilizer specially formulated for houseplants, and the results are impressive. The pricing compares favorably with chemicals, if you calculate what it will cost for the season. For example, only two applications of the lawn ferâ€" tilizer are required each year, spring and fall, although you can start using it anytime. Open 9 to 5 Mon. to Fri., and 9 to 4 Saturday.
