Let‘s take a look at Princess Cruises â€" probably the most famous cruise line in the world â€" due to the enormously successful midâ€"70‘s TV series ‘The Love Boat‘! In 1965, the 6,000 ton "Princess * Select 6" Phalaenopsis . . | * Select 4" Phalaenopsis .. * All Other Orchids Patricia" commenced pleasure sailings from the West Coast to the Mexican Riviera. By 1975, the "Pacific Princess" joined the ‘Island Princess" and ‘The Love Boat‘ TV series was born. Filmed on the "Pacific Princess", it catapulted pleasure cruising into the homes of tens of millions of TV watchers every week. It was in the 1980‘s that cruising expanded to a much broader audience. Princess had added the "Sun Princess" BUY FROM A GROWEKRK Over 45,000 sq. ft. of greenhouses 9_99 Reg. $32.49 49 Reg. $27.49 Evergreens Shade Trees en 814 uthdown Rd. During that time period, the "Sea Princess" was borrowed from head office, PO Lines, to meet the increased cruising demand, until the new ships of the late ‘80s were delivered. The 1988 merger with Sitmar Cruises yielded Princess the new "Sky Princess" and the "Dawn Fair Princesses", both of which will be retired shortly. Three superliners, The "Star", "Crown" and "Regal" arrived in ‘89 to ‘91, cruising with about 30% less pasâ€" sengers than comparable sized competiâ€" tors‘ ships. These ships introduced some great Princess‘ features including large cabins (188 sq. ft.), Wine Caviar bars, the Patisserie (a pastry cafe â€" one of my favorite stops!) and the Pizzeria. Last year, the "Golden Princess", formerly the "Royal Viking Sky" was leased from Kloster Cruises to fill cerâ€" tain schedule needs including the Hawaii to Tahiti cruises each winter. The new 77,000 ton, 1950 passenger "Sun Princess" will be delivered in early 1996. This largest and most innovative ‘Love Boat‘ will have two luxurious atriums (with outside windows) and a promenade circling the Main Deck. Other features include over 400 stateâ€" rooms with verandahs or balconies, two main dining rooms, a pizzeria, a patisâ€" serie, and an international food court. She‘ll also offer two main show rooms, three pools, a sports deck, a youth and teen center, a fitness center surrounding a pool suspended between two decks, and fabulous meeting and conference spaces. The "Sun Princess" will be joined in the spring of 1997 by a yet unnamed sisâ€" terâ€"ship. But get ready because in late 1997, Princess will take delivery of the largest ship ever built â€" a 100,000 ton super Love Boat carrying 2,600 passengers! This incredible new ship will boast 15 decks and have over 750 staterooms with private, spacious balconies. She will have three stateâ€"ofâ€"theâ€"art showrooms, offering more entertainâ€" ment choices and have three main dinâ€" ing rooms all no larger than the dining room on the "Royal Princess". Want more? How about the cruise industry‘s first virtual reality theater, allowing you to ‘play‘ on some of the world‘s greatest golf courses â€" and a spectacular nightclub positioned 15 decks above the sea accessible only by a glassâ€"enclosed, moving walkway! Princess is well positioned to take you and cruising into the third millenniâ€" um! Submitted by Bob Kerby, Cruise Holidays, 338â€"2077.
