Instead, she plans to fineâ€"tune its weak spots. In order to create a receptive founâ€" dation for change, one of her first orders of business will be to keep the lines of communication flowâ€" ing with parents. Caster has been listening for years: she is past president of the River Oaks Public School PTA, former executive member of the Coâ€"Operative Nursery School and a member of the WOSS Parent Advisory Committee. Over the years, though, she grew frustrated over several issues and decided to run for trustee. "(They) must understand their roles and be accountable for their decisions," she says. "Pointing fingers doesn‘t work," she says. NOW HEAKR Caster goes on to explain that walls must be broken down and all parties involved come togethâ€" er for a common purpose. If not, then the child is the loser. "Parents need to know about issues well in advance. How can you expect people in the commuâ€" nity to react, if they don‘t know what‘s going on?" asks Caster. "I don‘t think I‘m an uninformed parent, but I know how hard it is to get information. Communication is the key to make the system work. Parents want to be more involved. It‘s up to the trustee to let them know what‘s going on." Caster believes responsibility must be shared by everyone involved, from the parents, stuâ€" dents, teachers and principals to the superintendents, directors and trustees.
