Crafts for Christmas one of OA S events Pottery, paintings, wreaths and woodwork will all be available at the annual Oakville Art Society Crafts for Christmas sale Nov. 25th to 27th at the gallery site on Bronte Road. Hours will be Friday, Nov. 25th between noon and 9 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 26th between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 27th between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Admission is $1 per person with children under 12 admitted free. The OAS was originally founded in 1965 as a teaching society in which artists in various media could meet and exchange ideas. The first meeting place was the ‘cottage‘ in Coronation Park followed by the farmhouse next door and when membership outgrew both of these outlets, the OAS bought its current building at 560 Bronte Rd. Throughout these years, the OAS has retained a unique position in all of Canada in that it is still primarily selfâ€"supporting. For the past 29 years, through profits from classes and memberships, sales in the Gallery and fundâ€"raising, the membership has been able to maintain its present facilities. The OAS is one of a very small number of private, nonâ€"profit, nonâ€"government owned societies in the province to possess its own building. One of the organization‘s major fundâ€"raising events is its Art Auction and this year the 29th annual Art Auction will take place Feb. A4th featuring artists from all over Ontario as well as from the OAS.
