Coâ€"owner Sprott explains that when she and longâ€"time friend Boughner Idler began planâ€" ning their bookstore in their heads, they both had very strong ideas about making it "a centre for artistic exchange". "Bookselling is really just the catalyst," she suggests. " Every book here has a subject, and all of them can lead to something else". The "something else" she has in mind can be as diverse as a performance by chamber musiâ€" cians or guest speakers on garâ€" dening or any other topic of interâ€" est. One of the reasons for Bookers location in the heart of downtown Oakville, according to Boughner Idler, is that they wanted their shop to be close the the cafes and retail stores that keep an area vibrant. On Saturday mornings, for instance, Bookers offers a children‘s story time, while on Sundays, browsers can drop in and pick up their Sunday times or choose from a variety of other international newspapers. In short, Bookers‘ owners want their shop to be viewed as a "peoâ€" ple place" where you can go to simply buy a good book or take part in an exchange of ideas through one of the many special programs which will be offered. Although they did not want to tip their hand about upcoming events, Sprott and Boughner Idler said they are very excited about future plans for the bookstore.
