The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday May 6, 2006 - 23 Learning their gardening ABCs Oakville Horticultural Society - Junior Program teaches children the joys of gardening With the arrival of the warm, spring weather comes another year for children to learn the joys of gardening at the Oakville Horticultural Society. Each year children and their families are invited to participate in a gardening program sponsored by the Oakville Horticultural Society. The goal of the program is to introduce basic horticultural practices for growing vegetables/ plants, and to have great fun discovering the joy of gardening. Each child has their own garden plot, and in the spring and fall, topics such as soil, transplanting, pollinating and seed collecting are discussed, while they participate in the hands-on process of building and caring for their very own garden! The children are also invited to participate in other garden related activities during this April to October Program*, such as a flower arranging session, a produce and flower contest and a "harvest" BBQ celebration held in September, at the end of the program. For more information on this great community program, please visit www.oakvillehort.org or call Susan Hoeltken at 905-3385780 or email at shoeltken@cogeco.ca Seven year old Dominic Johnson putting the finishing touches on some Daffodils.
