www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 21, 2006 - 39 Catholic school board holds regional track-and-field meet A resurgence of interest in track and field led the Halton Catholic District School Board to co-ordinate a regional meet for each municipality's top two finishers, held Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. The championship meet, held for the first time in a decade, came two days after municipal meets were held in Burlington, Georgetown and Oakville. More than 1,500 students from Grades 5 to 8 participated in the municipal meets. Georgetown's Christ the King also hosted the board's meet for Special Olympians, whose participation numbers increased again this year. Those athletes competed in events like wheelchair races, softball throw, basketball throw and pool noodle toss. Our Lady of Peace was the top Oakville school at the Halton Catholic District School Board System Championship Meet, finishing second overall with 88 points -- four behind Burlington's Sacred Heart of Jesus. St. Bernadette finished sixth with 57 points, St. Vincent placed eighth with 51 points and Holy Family came ninth with 43 points.
