The bylaw adopted in 2005, and implemented via a January 2006 Woodlands Stewardship Program, prohibits and regulates the destruction or injuring of trees in Halton. The bylaw applies to all woodlots greater than half a hectare or environmentally sensitive lands designated in the Regional Greenlands system. Violators may face significant fines, restoration orders, or both. Fines can be as high as $1,000 per tree for individuals and $5,000 per tree for corporations. Halton Region had not issued a permit to allow tree cutting on the Dorval Drive golf course. "Throughout this investigation process, ClubLink has been co-operative and has expressed its commitment to restoring the disturbed areas, to providing additional compensation by way of enhanced tree cover at the Glen Abbey Golf Course and to conduct all future maintenance operations in an environmentally-sensitive manner," said Halton's Director of Planning and Transportation Services, Jane Clohecy.
