Artscene Oakville Beaver · WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2007 30 Enjoy A Wee Celebration at Erchless Estate on Sunday The Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate will host A Wee Celebration on Sunday. Join in the celebration of Scottish poet Robbie Burns from 1-4 p.m. Stay warm and cozy inside the historic estate while listening to readings from the renowned poet performed by Iain McNicol and Doug Orr. Whether a lover of Scottish poetry, or a liking for a tartan, it's not difficult to find a reason to join the Oakville Museum's salute to Scotland's greatest poet and the heritage of Oakville's founding family, the Chisholms. Festivities will also include traditional musical repertoire performed by England-born singer Mervyn Russell, who has completed the highest grade of exams for voice set by the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music in England. Russell will be accompanied by long-time Oakville resident Eleanor Crisell, music director of the Kerr Street Singers and numerous concerts staged by the Clarkson Music Theatre. Set your toe tapping to fiddlers Jaclyn Obermeyer and Billy Godber, also performing at A Wee Celebration. Past performances from this duo include the Oakville Waterfront Festival and Midnight Madness with their group, the Oakville Ceilidh Fiddlers, an ensemble of advanced Suzuki strings students. Though the duo performs traditional Irish and Scottish repertoire, the two fiddlers are also known to present some of their own compositions. Of course, no Scottish celebration would be complete without a piped-in Address to the Haggis. For the more adventurous event-goers, the Haggis can be sampled along with other tasty traditional Scottish snacks and refreshments. Tickets to A Wee Celebration cost $5 each and can be ordered by calling 905-338-4400 or purchased at the Oakville Museum, located at 8 Navy St. (south of Lakeshore Road).
