The Blades went into Tuesday's game against the Milton IceHawks tied atop the Provincial Jr. A Hockey League's West Conference with the Hamilton Red Wings. Considering the IceHawks had just nine wins (compared to the Blades' 33), it seemed almost a given that Oakville would have woke up Wednesday in sole possession of first place. Instead, the Blades surrendered the game-winning goal with 2:35 to play as they dropped a 2-1 decision to Milton. The Blades remain tied with Hamilton and one point ahead of Brampton but have left their rivals with two games in hand. The Blades can't be accused of sleeping through their game in Milton. They outshot the IceHawks 42-20, including a 17-3 margin in the third period. However, the Blades could not beat Milton goalie Vince Cusiak until Trevor Elliott knotted the game at one six minutes into the third. The Blades continued to struggle on the power play, failing to capitalize on their third-period man advantages and allowing Milton's David Vallorani to score the winning goal with under three minutes to play. That sent the Blades to their third loss in five games. Oakville is just 2-for-30 on the power play (6.7 per cent) over that stretch. The Blades will try to remedy that situation when they host the Buffalo Jr. Sabres tonight (Friday) at Dominion Twin Rinks. The addition of a second arena at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre has enabled the OMLA to increase its membership and offer house league and rep lacrosse to more players. In the past, registration had been limited to slightly more than 700 players. Spaces are available in all house league divisions for players born between 1990-2003, and in all rep divisions from tyke (1999-2000 birth year) to intermediate (1986-1990). Registration dates are Saturday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. Copies of birth certificates, passports or baptismal certificates are required for all new registrants. Coaches and volunteers are also needed for the upcoming season. Tyke Lumberjacks win Working well as a team enabled the Oakville tyke white Lumberjacks to win the championship at the recent Percy Township hockey tournament. The Lumberjacks won all three of their games and outscored their opposition 19-4. "It was the perfect tournament," said head coach John Kennedy. "I was thrilled with how everyone came together to play our best games yet."
