Blue Sharks outlast Attack The Oakville Blue Sharks met a familiar opponent in the championship game of the recent Cambridge Roadrunners girls' hockey tournament. The Blue Sharks faced another Oakville Hornets house league squad, the Teal Attack, and the teams combined to provide a dramatic finish. The contest was tied 2-2 through regulation time, with Brooke Jovanovich scoring twice for the Blue Sharks and Isabelle Mastantuono and Fiona Venneri replying for the Teal Attack. Bantam Hornets win gold in Adirondack A hard-fought 2-1 overtime victory over the Kanata Rangers gave the Oakville bantam A Hornets the championship at the recent Adirondack Winter Classic girls' hockey tournament in Glen Falls, New York. Hayley Good scored the game-winner, intercepting a pass at the Hornets' blue line and breaking down the ice, maneuvering around several Kanata defenders and firing a hard snap shot over the Kanata goaltender's shoulder. Katy Jonker scored the other Oakville goal in the final, tying the game 1-1 in the third period after Kanata had opened the scoring in the second period on a penalty shot. Oakville goaltender Laura Corcoran made a number of difficult saves and was named the championship game's most valuable player. The Hornets began the tournament with a 4-0 win over Saranac Lake. Brianne Martin scored twice, with Vicky Procyk (game MVP) and Emily Carter drawing assists on both markers, while Sara Stewart and Courtney Grano added singles. Evelyn McLean and Sara Stewart chipped in with helpers. In their second game, the Hornets edged Brewster 1-0 on McLean's goal with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.
