14 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday February 21, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Oakville's Night of 1,000 Dinners The Night of 1,000 Dinners is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Ottawa Treaty to Ban Landmines. Every year, people around the world gather to share a meal and work toward the elimination of landmines through the work of Adopt-a-Minefield and the Canadian Landmine Foundation. Munn's United Church, Church of the Incarnation and Amnesty Oakville will be cohosting their 5th Annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 3 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at Church of the Incarnation, at the corner of Dorval and Old Abbey Lane, across from the entrance to the Glen Abbey Golf and Country Club. This year, Afghan food will be featured. The guest speaker will be Paul Faucette from the Canadian Landmine Foundation. Money raised by the dinner last year was used to support landmine clearance in Cambodia. This year, the money raised in Canada will be used in Bosnia. The success of this fundraiser has led officials to believe that the world can be de-mined by 2020 that's only 13 more dinners. Tickets cost $12.50 for adults and $6 for children under 10. To order tickets, contact the the Munn's United Church office at 905-257-8434.
