So far this year, the CFO has approved grants totalling close to $50,000 to support a wide range of projects aimed at improving the lives of those in and around Oakville. Grants were made through the following funding programs: Ontario Endowment for Children and Youth in Recreation Fund: · Oak Park Moms & Tots (preschool child/parent exercise program); · Easter Seals Society (summer programs for children); · Morden and Lorne Skuce Public Schools, in cooperation with the Halton Learning Foundation (music and physical education resources); · The Oakville Symphony Orchestra (young people's mini concerts); · Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (summer kids' camp); · Oakville Suzuki Association (performing arts summer camp bursaries) · Oakville Children's Choir (choral celebration of Black History Month). Oakville Environmental Fund: · Conservation Halton (native tree plantings in partnership with local high schools); The Community Fund: · Big Brothers Big Sisters (high school mentors for kids); · Halton Food for Thought (start-up kits for school nutrition programs); Morden and Lorne Skuce Public Schools, in cooperation with the Halton Learning Foundation (literacy and numeracy resources); · Oak Park Mom & Tots (after-school literacy and homework help) and · St. John Ambulance, Oakville (bicycle response team for community events). "The Community Foundation of Oakville is thrilled to work with and support a wide range of charitable organizations in our community" said Lyn O'Reilly, chair of the CFO's grants committees.
