www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday April 14, 2007 - 19 HEALTH & WELLNESS Taoist Tai Chi Society, Parkinson Society hold joint open houses across Ontario, Manitoba The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada and the Parkinson Society are inviting the public to discover the benefits of the Taoist Tai ChiTM internal arts of health for those with Parkinson disease. To this end, open houses held jointly by both organizations will take place at each of the Taoist Tai Chi Society's clubs in Ontario and Manitoba on Sunday, April 22. Local branch listings and detailed programmes will be available through local media. A Chronic Condition Parkinson's disease is a chronic condition. It is progressive and marked by difficulty in initiating and sustaining movement, especially movement that is repetitive in nature. Stiff muscles, a tremor in the hand while at rest, and a tendency to fall are also frequently experienced. These troubles make many of the activities of daily life a struggle--walking, turning, getting in and out of a chair, writing, keeping an upright posture. Although a variety of medications, and even surgery, play a major role in coping with the symptoms of this disease, an active program of daily exercise is essential. Profoundly Useful Exercise The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada is a registered charity dedicated to helping people improve their health through the use of the Taoist Tai ChiTM internal arts of health. This exercise form, developed from an ancient tradition in China, has proved profoundly useful in responding to the impact of Parkinson's disease on one's life. Participants learn physical movements that improve balance, flexibility, strength and endurance. Incorporated in these movements is a unique form of stretching that produces simultaneous lengthening, turning and relaxation of all of the body's tissues. This addresses directly the stiffness and immobility so typically encountered by people with Parkinson's disease. Movement becomes freer, walking and stance more natural. The fear of falling is reduced. Range of motion, coordination and strength improve. The focus on learning the foundations of the exercise acts as a moving meditation, quieting the mind. The collegial club structure, practicing the exercise regularly with others, helping out at the club in whatever ways present themselves, all serve to create a sense of calm, engagement and purpose. His list of curable and treatable illnesses reads like a medical dictionary, from irritable bowel syndrome to asthma, allergies, diabetes to psoriasis, stop smoking to sciatica, disc bugling, Dr. Zhang can help when you may think no one can. The success of his treatment can be seen best through the eyes of his loyal and very pleased clients. A dentist who came to see Dr. Zhang was in an accident with his wife and came to the clinic very shortly after the accident. With only one treatment, their headaches, dizziness, neck pain and stiffness, shoulder and upper back pain disappeared immediately. There is also the case of a lady who came to Dr. Zhang with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (neck & shoulder stiffness and pain hand numb and tingling). To her astonishment, she found relief after only three acupuncture treatments. So when she developed tennis elbow, she decided to have acupuncture once more. Again, her symptoms cleared and she couldn't believe that in such a short time acupuncture made her feel so much better. Follow up calls are part and parcel to Dr. Zhang's workday. "I want to make sure people are getting the health results they are searching for," said Zhang who speaks English and his native language, Mandarin. "Many people don't understand acupuncture," says Dr. Zhang. "Some people go for years suffering with pain and discomfort and try many methods that have not worked, before they come see me." While Dr. Zhang can help these people, he explains that his treatments are far more effective if patients come see him right away. "If they come early the results are fast!" he exclaims. "Acupuncture gives people a choice a natural therapy that works!" Consider the case of a lady who suffered for three years with car accident injures causing a life of constant pain. "After the accident, I had bad headache, neck pain and stiffness, shoulder and upper back pain. I tried every treatment I could find and went to a lot of specialists and lots of therapies, but without help. Finally all they could do was give me medications. During my six month treatment at Dr. Zhang's clinic, I gradually reduced my medication and now I don't take any more pills." Dr. Zhang explains that he is pleased he could help her. "Had she come right away after the accident, her healing would have been much faster and she would have been free from the long suffering" One happy client tells how even after surgery his sinus problems were not fixed, but after only 14 treatments with Dr. Zhang, he was feeling much better. "I recently went to visit my family doctor and he found my nasal polyp had disappeared. I am convinced on the benefits of acupuncture." Suffering from a migraine is a very common problem that, usually, can rarely be cured. One satisfied patient tells her story. "I had migraines every month, accompanied with vomiting and fatigue. I approached more holistic therapy. I was migrainefree after three months of combination treatment that included acupuncture and herbal remedies." Coughing is a very common ailment. Chinese herbal therapy is very effective as it treats the cause, not the symptoms. A Taekwondo instructor tells his story. "Every year the flu virus seems to find me first, then inevitably I have to endure bronchitis for many weeks on end. In past years I have used medications, antibiotics for months. It was reoccurring. with medications. You can be pill free with natural remedies. One particular depression sufferer had been dealing with depression for more than 20 years. With no choice, she was forced to rely on medication. "I underwent three months of acupuncture and herbal therapy with Dr. Zhang and soon was able to reduce my dosage of medication gradually until finally I got rid of them. I am now symptom-free and lead a normal life." A stroke sufferer came to see Dr. Zhang and got incredible results. "I couldn't open my right hand and lift it up and my right leg was very weak. I had recovery rehabilitation and visited my physiatrist twice a week, but with little improvement. Amazingly, I started to see some improvement after my first treatment with Dr. Zhang. After two months treatment, I could open my right hand completely and raise my right arm to reach my hair. I started to feel more flexibility in my leg." A man who had ear noise, face pain numbness and teeth sensitive for three months found his relief after seven acupuncture treatments. Many men snore. It is not only harmful to their health but also affects their family's sleeping habits. Dr. Zhang helped a 35-year old client who snored loudly. After ten treatments, this client slept without snoring. For women, their menstrual cycle can be very painful. One sufferer came to see Dr. Zhang and after a few treatments the pain was gone. The stories go on and on... Dr. Ac. Zhang is very pleased to help and serve the community. Imagine living without any chemicals or medication and being able to cure your illnesses and injuries with natural therapy. This type of treatment does exist and Dr. Zhang makes your health his top priority. Dr. Zhang can be reached at (905) 9019522 or visit www.acupunctureherbs.ca for more information. Dr. Zhang and one of his many, happy customers. We enlisted the help of an herbal specialist named Dr. Zhang and began to take his herbal prescriptions. Within days there was noticeable improvement in our health, the medicinal properties began to detoxify the body and the cough & mucus cleared up.After one week of treatment we were successfully breathing clearly without any persistent coughing or mucus." Suffering from sexual dysfunction can be an embarrassing problem with few cures. Many people suffer from this without any treatment. Acupuncture can help. A young man came to see Dr. Zhang, after only 10 treatments he was feeling much better. An Insomniac had been prescribed many pills that weren't working and were causing side effects. The lack of sleep led to depression. " Dr. .Zhang started a weekly acupuncture session, along with some herbal treatment. "I must confess that I was a little skeptical at first, but after I began to experience a better sleeping pattern, I began to realize that I was also finding it easier relax. I now enjoy a restful night's sleep and feel calmer and have more energy." A life suffering with depression can be filled
