Shepley posts best-ever Futures finish Jessica Shepley fired a final round four-under par 68 to earn her best finish on the Duramed Futures Tour on the weekend, placing eighth at the Louisiana Pelican Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana. Shepley opened the tournament with rounds of 72 and 70. Her three-round total of 210 was five shots behind winner Janell Howland of Boise, Idaho. Shepley has made the cut in all four of her Futures Tour events this year but Sunday's finish marked her first career top-10 result, earning her $1,630, lifting her to 26th on the tour's money list. "It was a good result in Texas," Hinchcliffe said. "Sierra Sierra did a great job to get both cars on the front row yesterday, it's just unfortunate that we couldn't turn it into a one-two finish at the checkered today." Hinchcliffe had finished second to teammate Raphael Matos in both qualifying sessions but was passed by Carl Skerlong in the first turn, dropping him to third. He remained there for the rest of the 43-lap race, finishing eight seconds behind Matos, who posted his third straight victory. The 20-year-old's best finish with his new team, Sierra Sierra Enterprises, moved him into third place in the Champ Car Atlantic driver standings. The series will take a six-week break before resuming in Portland, Oregan, where Hinchcliffe earned his first career victory last season. Provincial football tryouts The second of three tryout segments for the provincial under-17 and under19 football teams will take place Saturday and Sunday in Burlington. More than 200 hopefuls from across Ontario, including members of the area's Halton Invictas and Burlington Stampeders programs, participated in the initial tryout session earlier this month. Ontario Varsity League president and Ontario Football Alliance vice-president Jim Rion, Halton Invictas president Jack Crawford and Burlington mayor Cam Jackson were among the notables who attended the first weekend of tryouts. The Invictas, who have secured the rights to use Gary Allan High School in Burlington as their home base this season, are hosting the tryouts. A third camp, a single-day session, will be held May 5. Provincial team hopefuls must attend all three tryout segments in order to be considered. The coach of the Ontario U17 team, Ed Hewitson, is also the coach of the Halton Invictas junior team, which will open its season next month. Membership in the Invictas club, which plans to add a house league program next season, has swelled to 345 players this year. Ontario will battle other provinces at the annual Canada Cup tournament, scheduled for July in Laval, Que.
