www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 16, 2007 - 13 Province gives CH cash to preserve green Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn picked Mother's Day in Wildflower Woods to announce the Province will give Conservation Halton (CH) $126,250. Of the total $126,250, $95,375 is for repairs and $30,875 for studies through the Water and Erosion Control Infrastructure Capital Program Funding (WECI). The announcement was made in Wildflower Woods, a 24.1-acre environmentally sensitive area on the south side of Ford Drive, directly east of the Ford Motor Company and west of First Canadian Title. The area is being transferred to Conservation Halton as a conservation site. "Today's announcement is great news for Conservation Halton," said Conservation Halton Chair Brian Penman Sunday. "The new funding will allow us to evaluate our water control structures to ensure they will continue to protect watershed residents and property from flooding and erosion. The funds will also be used to make improvements to the Kelso Dam in Milton and the Scotch Block Dam in Halton Hills, two important structures that control water in the Sixteen Mile Creek," he said. "I'm very pleased that in addition to the establishment of Ontario's Greenbelt, Oakville's new 650-acre Glenorchy Conservation Area, and the recently announced intention to protect 21 new acres of land here at Wildflower Woods, our government is also continuing to invest in Conservation Halton," said Flynn. "This is another example of how seriously our government takes the conservation and protection of our natural heritage," Flynn said. Building on its plan to protect Ontario's green spaces, the McGuinty government will donate more than 200 acres of provincially significant natural heritage land to communities and organizations across Ontario, it announced during Earth Week in April. "The open concept offices that we have at First Canadian Title enables our employees to enjoy the natural buffer between us and the industrialized land," said Patrick Chetcuti, president of First Canadian Title, adding, "We are very excited the beauty of this area will be preserved." The government intends to transfer 10 significant green spaces, ranging in size from three to 80 acres, to communities and organizations across the province, including here in Oakville. Healthy eating on the go! Here's a list of options for the on-the-run eater: · Trail mix (with extra almonds) is a compact, portable snack that's high in protein and minimizes hunger cravings for longer periods. Keep it in your desk to satisfy those afternoon temptations.. · Sliced fresh fruit might take some pre-planning, but is an excellent way of filling your belly and providing vitamins to keep your body well fuelled. · Whole grain crackers, coupled with a low-fat cheese, will fill you up and give you the energy you need, and is a much healthier option than the higher calorie bagel (equivalent to four slices of bread). · Yogurt containing fruits like blueberries, cranberries, strawberries and raspberries is another great on-the-go choice, providing the antioxidants you need to build your immune system and ward off harmful bacteria. · For beverages, the best and most thirst-quenching choice is spring water, but milk and fruit juice are also excellent alternatives to soft drinks. Be sure to drink the milk cold. - News Canada EST. 2006 Completely New Menu I am a raving fan of the Stout Monk. The excellent food & service is topped off with a unique golf theme.
