www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 20, 2007 - 29 OAS student art show opens today The Oakville Art Society is hosting its annual student show this week. Throughout the year, adults and children have an opportunity to enhance their skills at the OAS at 560 Bronte Rd. through a variety of art classes, including various painting mediums, pottery and sculpture. Students of the OAS who have taken classes over the last year have been encouraged to submit their work for inclusion in this show. Students were encouraged to participate in the show in everything from taking submissions and hanging the work to running the opening reception and staffing the studio. Everyone has an opportunity to be involved in every aspect of producing a show this is also a part of the learning experience at the OAS. The show's visitors will jury the artwork and awards will be given for the people's choice in each of the categories for both the children and adults' contributions. The show will be open to the public 11 a.m. 4 p.m. today until Sunday, June 24. The Footnotes are composed of several dance groups that specialize in a variety of dance styles and a number of vocalists and musicians who perform at the semi-annual Company shows. Included in the group is the husband and wife dance team of Harold and Eileen Madren, who live in Oakville. Harold, 82, and Eileen, who is in her late 70s, are performing on stage together in a total of seven numbers, including tap, jazz and clogging dance styles. The Footnotes' mission is to dispel the stereotypical myths associated with aging by demonstrating through live performance the stamina, vitality and talent of the post 50 generation. The company is dedicated to having fun, on and off the stage, while being committed to providing a comfortable, professional and inspirational atmosphere for older adults to reach their creative potential. Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance 2007 is the group's year end production. Show dates are Tuesday, June 26 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Wednesday, June 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $20 or $17.50 for a group of 20 of more.
