Accident under investigation Continued from page 1 Firefighters and EMS personnel started performing CPR, and the men were rushed to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. An air ambulance was called to the emergency site, but not used. The Brampton man had approximately 15 years' experience in the industry and the worker from Binbrook had approximately 32 years' experience, police said. Officials from the Human Resources Development Canada Labour Program are in charge of the investigation. Halton Regional Police Sgt. Peter Payne said the investigation is expected to take some time because air quality tests have shown there is a risk to investigators below the surface. He said sensors were lowered into the sewer to check for any substances that could have caused the men to pass out. An air ambulance, fire trucks, police cars and a white Wesbell Technologies truck remained at the scene as investigations began in the sewer. The sewer is located in the small field area between the QEW exit onto Third Line and a group of restaurants to the north. The scene drew a large crowd of on-lookers. Mauro Dimario said he didn't see what happened, but came to the scene after he heard the commotion when police and fire trucks arrived. "I was told three guys were working, and two guys were down in the manhole and one guy was up top," he said. "Apparently the guy up top was calling to the other two for 20, 25 minutes. When he didn't get a response he called for help." The investigation is expected to continue today.
