And like most parents of such independent-minded adult children, her dad Rick is reluctant but eager to see his daughter succeed. But the real world obstacles Tania will face in her quest to be her own woman are great. Tania has spina bifida and has relied on a wheelchair for her mobility since age two. So, her dad set to work on ensuring his daughter and others like her learn to thrive. Przybylski and his business partner Kevin McDermott own The Stout Monk, a Dundas Street West pub the pair bought last year. Last Friday, the pair handed a cheque for $11,000 to Erinoak's CEO Linda Rothney. The money represents the proceeds they raised from their first annual spring golf tournament held June 5. That's when 100 people paid $175 each to play the course at Glen Abbey, dine at the Stout Monk and, in the process, raise much-needed funds for the local non-profit children's treatment centre. It's all the more cherished because for Tania, its difficult and sometimes impossible just to visit friends at their homes because they aren't as accessible with a wheelchair. "We wanted to focus our fundraiser on programs that don't traditionally get funding, and most people don't realize that the work Erinoak does, isn't funded by the government," said Przybylski. At the end of the golf day, when Przybylski explained to the suppliers, business acquaintances, family and friends who attended, his personal reasons behind fundraising for Erinoak, he was surprised by how many people came up to him afterwards and explained they have a child, niece or nephew like Tania. That's not surprising, considering Erinoak is Ontario's largest children's treatment centre. It currently helps 8,000 children and by 2010 the non-profit centre's client roster will have climbed to 13,000. That's an exponential leap from 1996 figures of 1,400. Families and children accessing Erinoak has increased by 10 per cent annually.
