Chikodzi is hoping this year's show in Oakville generates as much interest as last year's did. "People really felt a connection between the work and the Zimbabwean people," he said. "It's a very positive contribution towards the cause. I find that people really feel good about being involved." Shona Sculptures are named after the largest tribe in Zimbabwe, and the work Chikodzi is showing is contemporary African art. "Some people probably have a preconceived idea of what African art is, but I find it actually surprises most audiences," he said. Already a popular eatery in downtown Oakville, one does not require cause to visit the `ever-so-deliciously' innovative Rude Native. Whether a current client or 'wanna-be', August and September is a prime time to book a reservation. While having fun dining on global fare, your presence alone will benefit owner Craig Nazareth's favourite charity, our seniors. Craig inherited his dream just over one year ago when the Rude Native Oakville location went on the market. Having always wanted his own restaurant, the opportunity to purchase an existing success was magnetic. "I was their chef for a few years, so found it an easy transition to transfer to the other side of the counter," says Craig. It is now Red Seal chef Peter who is responsible for conjuring up the worldly culinary delights that is Rude Native's trademark. Enjoying the experience of running this exotic eatery, Craig feels it is time to say thanks. "I am having so much fun, I want to give back to the community that supports us." For the months of August and September, Rude Native will donate $1.00 per diner. "The choice of charity was an easy decision for me". Craig's father-in-law, Dr. Greg Thomson, is a reputable Oakville GP specializing in geriatric care. "We seem to forget about our elderly. Their needs are enormous and funds for rehabilitation is key". Aptly put, "It can't always be about the baby boomers." To aid in Craig's endeavour, Rude Native has joined forces with Nederberg Wineries. "Always featured on our wine list, Nederberg is donating $300 gift baskets that 6 of our lucky customers will win!" Everyone loves the Rude Native. You don't need a reason to go...just when you should go. What's not to love about dining within the next 2 months, and you too will have a helping hand in caring for the elderly residents of our beloved town. Simply put, "Our goal is $10,000...please Oakville"! Trish Trinh TRISH BRINGS WITH HER, MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.
